Zeta Rho History

In 1995, eight independent women felt the need for a new sorority on the campus of The University of West Alabama-then Livingston University.  These original eight women were Tammy Stundon, Gloria Williams, Stacy Burns, Jill Hansen, Sung Wan Han, Rachelle Munn, Sarah Taylor, and Kelli Britt.

These eight women became Gamma Delta.  Over time, these eight women grew into a recognizable entity with developing traditions and a stance on campus.  Gamma Delta had its own colors, ideals, bylaws, ceremonies, and sacraments.  After two formal rushes, Gamma Delta was recognized by Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority.  After meeting with a representative group of National Officers, the group decided to sign a contract with Alpha Sigma Alpha to try and obtain a charter for The University of West Alabama.

On May 19, 1996, the twenty-three women of Gamma Delta became the University of West Alabama Colony of Alpha Sigma Alpha.  In two short years, on May 9, 1998 the West Alabama Colony became the Zeta Rho Chapter of Alpha Sigma Alpha with forty strong members.
